The only draw back with Gun Diode type TX's is that they drift for a few minutes on warm up because the actual junction runs very hot indeed... The Bob Platts Modulator was found to be very easy to get going and gave good results to get you going on 3c/m band if its only a reference signal.... From the top of a high hill you can certainly work 50 miles or more even with a simple horn antenna.... This Unit required 12 Volts supply and 1 Volt of Video and some Audio.......... G3RFL
